All That Jazz Collection.
The 'Roaring Twenties', the decade of the bath tub gin, the model T Ford, The Jazz Singer, and a celebration of life and youth after the dark war years. It was the age of the flapper, and the Charleston, the Bunny Hug and the Kickaboo, late night parties, and clubbing to the music of Jelly Roll Morton. Skirts shortened, breasts were flattened, and waistlines were slung on the hip. This was the decade of Art Deco and Cubism, and couture houses of the time livened up their designs by incorporating the art scene into their clothing.
This thrilling, care free period in history is the inspiration for our stunning collection of historical gowns, "All That Jazz". Influenced by the creative genius's of Coco Channel, Paul Poiret, and the surrealist inspired Elsa Schiaparelli, these gowns not only will transport you back to the days of Joan Crawford, Gloria Swanson and Clara Bow, but will bring out the hidden Greta Garbo in every girl.
Premiered at the Scottish Wedding Show in September 2009, initially the collection consisted of four dresses and a coat. A further four dresses were then launched in February 2010 for the spring show. Details of the dresses can be found by clicking on the images to the left.
The Manhattan Collection.
In 1957 the French edition of Vogue wrote, 'He has gone, and ten years of taste, of daring, of invention, have gone with him. It is to Dior that haute couture owes the recovery of its empire when it was most threatened. He is irreplaceable'. Christian Dior's 'New Look' was launched in 1947, and to many, his first collection single handily dragged the once all-conquering Paris fashion industry out from the ruble of the war years, into the most exciting and creative decade fashion has ever known.
Across the Atlantic, on the streets and in the nightclubs of New York, the creations of Dior, Givenchy, Balenciaga and Amies were adored by the fashion conscious housewives of Manhattan, who would happily spend their afternoons and their husband's money in the high class stores of Seventh Avenue
Meanwhile on the opposite coast, the first ladies of Hollywood were seen to sparkle on and off screen in the latest European designs. Clothes worn on screen by Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn, and towards the end of the decade, Marilyn Monroe, were replicated and sold in department stores around the world. Dressing had become an elegant art and the lady of the day could now afford to look and dress like their screen heroines.
This fascinating decade is the inspiration behind Lindsay Fleming Couture's new 2011 collection of wedding gowns, 'The Manhattan Collection', due for release in February. Using exquisite silks and lace, adorned with flowers and bows, embroidery and crystals, the fashions of the Fifties are now the must have wedding dress designs of 2011.
Lindsay Fleming could now be coming to a venue near you.
For a long time now, we have tossed around ideas about how we could make our designs more easily available to prospective clients, who for whatever reason, cannot visit us here at our studio in Abington. From this process has evolved the 'Lindsay Fleming Roadshow'.
At the roadshow, clients are able to sit down with our designer to discuss their requirements, see the sample dresses, and try on as many dresses as they wish. Basically they are able to do everything they would do if they visited our studio in Scotland.
With trips planned every six to eight weeks, clients can then visit us at the same location for every stage of the process, right through to picking up the dress.
The latest dates and Venue have now been announced and appointments are now been taken:
