When choosing the name for the first dress in our very first collection, one name had to be at the top of the list. Iona's history is steeped in Celtic culture, even prior to St.Columba landing on the island with 12 companions in the year 563AD. It is believed that at least part of the beautiful "Book of Kells" was kept on the island up until 849AD, before being sent to Kells in Ireland.

Capturing the simple but elegant designs from medieval Britain, Iona can be ordered in one of two styles. Iona A is made from beautiful pure silk crepe de chine, trimmed with gold thread Celtic knotwork embroidery around the neckline and belt. The sample dress shown on this page has the added luxury of hand-sewn A.B. Crystals, giving the dress an even more stunning appearance. Alternatively, for a softer, more romantic look, Iona B has flowing chiffon sleeves, trimmed with fine gold embroidery, and a stunning chiffon overskirt.

As with all Lindsay Fleming designs, Iona can be changed to suit your own taste. For example many clients have preferred to have their dress made with silver or coloured embroidery. To discuss this and other options available contact a designer.
